Colour Trends 2026 Cerulean Blue

Cerulean blue – The fashion world is buzzing about this standout fashion colour trend for 2026, with it appearing in collections from multiple designers on the spring/summer 2026 runways. It’s being used in everything from bold, head-to-toe looks to accent pieces and accessories.

If you’ve ever seen the film The Devil Wears Prada, you’ll be familiar with Andy’s blue cable knit sweater, and the subsequent references to cerulean blue. (Apparently Oscar de la Renta did not create a collection of gowns in cerulean blue in 2002.)

Not only are the the runways full of this bright, optimistic, yet sophisticated colour the high street and fast fashion outlets are following the trend too.

If you want to know more about the cerulean blue trend, how to define the colour, and wear it well then you have come to the right place, as this blog is all about cerulean blue and also highlights pieces from my collections which identify with the colour trend.

What is Cerulean Blue?

Cerulean blue is defined as a medium light blue with a subtle greenish undertone, but you don’t need to be really specific about the exact shade. The name comes from the Latin caeruleus, meaning sky and that’s exactly the vibe this season. Think clear daytime sky, not navy, not baby blue, and not turquoise, but somewhere in between.

Visually cerulean blue is lighter and brighter than navy, less green than turquoise and fresher and clearer than denim blue. It’s part of a broader movement towards vivid blue colours, from serene cerulean to intense cobalt blue. Cerulean blue reminds me of clear blue seas, the sky on a summers day, or delphinium blooms.

The shades of blue in the image below can also qualify as being “cerulean blue” which is great, as one specific shade of blue will not suit everyone’s skin tone, but I’ll talk more about that later in this post.

Shades of blue which can be classified as cerulean blue

These colours range from a brilliant sky blue through to a deeper cobalt blue, so there is a shade for everyone.

Designers are Loving Cerulean Blue

As I mentioned in the introduction, a number of designers are featuring vivid shades of blue in collections for spring summer, and with Paris fashion week A/W 2026 starting next week until 10th March, I’m excited to see if the colour filters through to the collections later in the year too. So lets see who’s flaunting the blue vibe for spring/summer 2026. Victoria Beckham has been spotted wearing a cerulean tailored suit, with a white shirt and burgundy bag, so she is practicing what she preaches.

  • Tory Burch featured the colour in tailored coats for spring/Summer 2026
  • Fendi included colour-blocked outfits in this colour
  • Versace featured cerulean blue through key looks in its Spring/Summer 2026 lineup
  • Loewe used cerulean blue in ready-to-wear jackets with a sport-luxury feel
  • Ashlyn 2026 collection made headlines for multiple cerulean blue looks
  • Courrèges incorporated cerulean into standout runway pieces
  • Prada also used the colour in in modern tailored looks
  • Tom Ford also embraced saturated blue tones, including cerulean in its 2026 offerings

If your style is relaxed or tailored, cerulean can be found everywhere from cozy knits, to summery swimwear, through to slinky silk and satin dresses, so you can easily add a cerulean item of clothing or accessory to your wardrobe.

How to wear Cerulean blue

Cerulean is fantastic as a statement colour because it’s vibrant without being overpowering and it works beautifully in spring and summer wardrobes, but when paired the right colours (more about that later) it can also transition well into the autumn and winter seasons too, which is why I’m looking forward to seeing if and how designers carry this through into collections for later this year.

I briefly touched on the fact that, a very specific shade of blue may not suit everyone, so delving a bit deeper into the subject, based on the three skin tone types identified in my guide what colour suits me, the following guides should help you choose the right shade of blue for your complexion.

Which Colours Work Well with Cerulean Blue?

When adding cerulean blue to your wardrobe, it helps to think about how you can combine it with your existing pieces and your style, as well as your skin tone so you can get the most out of your clothes.

In general cerulean blue can we worn with a multitude of colours from neutrals to warm or cool combinations based on your personal preferences and the way you want to wear it, it’s just a matter of picking the right colour partnerships for you and your lifestyle.

Neutrals: Effortlessly Wearable

Combine cerulean blue with a crisp and summery white or off-white, or for a softer, more elegant look swap the white for cream. Light and charcoal greys (another trending colour for Spring/Summer 2026) fused with blue gives a modern, cool appearance, but if you replace the grey with tan or camel it will add warmth and balance to the look. For a more polished finish with tonal colour layering, navy blue mixed with cerulean is the combination to go for.

Warm Contrasts for Extremely Flattering Colour Combinations

Adding coral to cerulean blue is a fresh, lively blend which is great for summer. Swap coral for soft orange or peach to soften the blend. If you want to go bolder then perhaps a stylish mix of mustard (one of personal favourites) and cerulean blue is for you, and if you want to achieve a more earthy, yet sophisticated look rust, or terracotta will work well.

Calm and Cohesive Cool Harmonies

Mixing teal with cerulean blue will give a rich and oceanic impression which is great for summery vibe, but for a more light and playful combination, aqua or mint are the perfect partners. For an unexpected and elegant vibe, lavender or soft purple are great collaborators with cerulean. If you want to achieve a very wearable, gentle feminine contrast with cerulean, a soft or blush pink (another trending colour for Spring/Summer 2026) will work wonders.

Best Ways to Wear Cerulean for Warm Skin Tones

Those with peach, yellow, or brown skin, blue, brown, hazel, or green eye colour, and brown, auburn or strawberry blond hair will benefit from cerulean’s cyan undertone. On this skin tone cerulean looks fresh, not harsh and avoids the heaviness of navy blue while still feeling polished.
If you have dark hair with grey, then the contrast from cerulean keeps greys looking intentional and luminous rather than dull.

  • Terracotta & rust
  • Olive & moss greens
  • Mustard yellow

The most flattering way to wear cerulean for warm skin is near the face. So shirts, blouses, sweaters, scarves, and necklaces are going to work best.

These combinations will be especially flattering:

  • Cerulean & cream or ivory = soft, elegant, lights up your skin
  • Cerulean & camel or warm beige = chic and very forgiving
  • Cerulean & soft gold jewellery = brings warmth to your warm complexion

Extra Tips:

  • Avoid pairing it right at your face with icy white or stark black as those colours can make warm skin look slightly sallow and unhealthy.
  • If your hair is greying more at the front wear cerulean slightly lower (open neckline, scarf or pendant necklace).

When wearing dresses & larger pieces like jumpsuits, cerulean looks fabulous with tan shoes, gold or bronze accessories and warm nude colours rather than cool grey.

Accessories in cerulean blue (especially good as hair greys) like scarves instantly brighten your face, handbags or shoes are modern but not overly trendy and for more of a nod towards the trend rather than full on homage, then jewellery with gemstones such as turquoise, aquamarine, and lapis lazuli with gold settings will look great on warm skin tones.

Best Ways to Wear Cerulean for Cool Skin Tones

You have a cool skin tone if you have white or olive skin, light blond, very dark brown or black hair and very dark to mid brown eye colour. On these skin tones cerulean blue tends to look crisp, luminous, and high-contrast. Cooler undertones in your skin echo the blue base, so the colour appears clean rather than softened. It looks very flattering close to the face so flaunt those cerulean tops, scarves, necklaces and accessories.

Cerulean is fantastic on structured pieces like tailored blazers, coats, and sheath dresses on cool skin. It photographs beautifully and looks very “put-together” with minimal effort, so it’s an ideal choice for events like weddings.

These pairings will really make your complexion sing:

  • Cerulean & pure white = sharp, fresh, and modern
  • Cerulean & cool grey = sleek and elegant
  • Cerulean & navy = polished and timeless
  • Cerulean & black = bold, graphic, confident

Extra Tips:

  • Very warm pairings like camel, rust, and mustard (which are great for warm skin tones) can fight with your colouring when worn near the face. They’re better kept lower down to accessories such as shoes, belts and bags or avoided altogether.
  • If your hair is greying, cerulean can prevent making you look washed out which can be caused by other shades of blue, and make a feature of your grey hair colour.

Best Ways to Wear Cerulean for Neutral/Mid/Medium or Balanced Tone Skin:

You have a neutral or mid-tone skin tones if you have pink or blue undertones to your skin, ash blond, or brown hair with very warm tones and green, aqua, or blue eye colour. The cooler undertones in your skin echo the blue base and have enough warmth and depth to handle cerulean blue but also enough neutrality to carry cooler shades. Cerulean hits a sweet spot for you, it’s bright without washing the skin out and yet cool enough to feel fresh, not heavy.

Colours that love cerulean and you:

Cerulean is great right at the neckline for mid-tones, it tends to make the skin look healthy especially when paired with:

  • Soft white or ivory
  • Denim or mid-blue
  • Warm grey
  • Sand or light camel
Colours that work well with cerulean blue for neutral/medium/midtone skin tones: teal, emerald, jade, watermelon pink, coral, warm plum, mustard, mid blue, turquoise, denim, warm grey, light camel and ivory, with examples of cerulean blue outfits

Mid-tone skin can usually wear cerulean blue without needing much contrast help, so it’s excellent as a dress colour, or for a blouse with simple tailoring, or even using a scarf or wrap for adding instant brightness to your outfit. On dark hair cerulean looks bold and crisp while for light or highlighted hair it looks fresh and balanced and for those with greys it is still very flattering.

These colour pairings are especially flattering for mid-tone complexions:

  • Coral & watermelon pink = bright, fresh, and confident
  • Turquoise & teal = glowing, luxe, oceanic
  • Emerald & jade = polished, regal, and sophisticated
  • Mustard = artistic, modern, and vibrant
  • Warm plum = Flattering, elegant and dramatic

Extra Tips: If your skin undertone leans slightly warm, you can soften cerulean with ivory or gold but if on the other hand it leans cool, sharpen it with white or silver instead.

What about Jewellery and Cerulean Blue?

For the best choices when it comes to mixing cerulean blue and your accessories, the colour works with all metals and the ongoing trend for pearl jewellery. With silver, cerulean looks clean and modern while mixing it with white gold it’s more subtle and refined. Alternatively adding cerulean to gold gives a warmer appearance which is especially lovely with cerulean in summer. Moreover for a fresh, classic look pearls and cerulean is a winner.
